The Araku Valley came up rather fast as a tourist destination. Even some years back, tourists visiting Andhra Pradesh did not have Araku Valley on their must-visit list. However, the sheer scenic beauty of the place has put it on the top slot for tourists who love their affair with nature. Araku is a hill station located 3200 feet above the sea level. The best way to reach there is by a train. The journey to Araku is a pleasure in itself. The railway track meanders through tunnels, hills and streams. On the way back, it’s a better idea to take the road.
The Araku Valley is dotted with tourist spots. Let’s begin with the Tribal Museum. The museum contains the tribal artifacts and lifestyle items that are a treat to the eyes. There are around 17 tribal societies in the region, each with their unique lifestyle. The tribals in this region have retained their way of life in the lap of nature. You can watch their famous Dhimsa dance, with their myriad costumes and tribal beats. Pongal is a much-celebrated festival in the Araku Valley.
Let’s move to the Botanical Gardens at Padmapuram. This garden has cottages amid tree tops. They hang about 10 feet above the ground. The huts built by the tourism department have constant water supply for the convenience of the tourists. Other than the Gardens, you can visit the Borra Caves. About 30kms away from Araku is the Anantagiri water falls. Closer to Araku is the Dumbriguda water falls, just 15kms from Araku.
The Araku Valley is famous for the scenic splendor. The TYDA has created an eco-tourism reserve for the lovers of the environment. It is located at a distance of 75kms from the city of Vizag. Tourists who enjoy bird-watching or rock-climbing can take off to this project. You can add these names to your itinerary as well: Rishikonda Beach, Sangda Falls, Paderu and Matsyagundam.
