The renowned “Thousand Pillar Temple” (Veyyi Stambhala Gudi) or 1000 Pillar Temple, an excellent example of Kakatiya architecture in 12th century, was reinforced in 1163 A.D. by Rudra Deva. Thousand Pillar Temple is located between Hanamkonda and Warangal, 150 Km from Hyderabad city, Andhra Pradesh. 1000 Pillar temple was built in the trend of Chalukya temples – a star-shaped and triple-shrine (called Trikutalayam), with perforated screens, elegant icons and rock cut elephants. The temples are sacred to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Surya. The added attraction is the glorious six-foot stone Nandi carved out of granite with a fine-textured finish. The one thousand pillars themselves are high carved. Adjacent to Thousand Pillar Temple, is another notable temple of Bhadrakali, famous for its stone picture of Goddess Kali, portrayed in a sitting position.
