Mandarmani boasts of a 13 km long motorable beach, probably the longest motorable beach road in India. On the beach you will undoubtedly get the chance to feel the divinity and tranquility. If that is not enough to please your senses, then try to loll on the sand and listen to the waves crashing upon the shore, which will surely drive away your bustling pressure.Relax, swim and enjoy the beach. You are not likely to have many visitors around and that’s the beauty of this beach. Activities include table tennis, carrom, beach cricket, beach volleyball, and boat cruises.
Pack your bag with light cotton clothes to avoid the summer heat;
Don’t miss out to carry sunscreen lotion, as it will help you to minimise the risks of excessive tanning; Before you set out for a drive on the motorable beach, gather information on high tides, because during high tides the water might reach up to the beach level, which can be dangerous.

By road
From Kolkata, after crossing the VidyaSagar Setu, take the Kona Expressway. After driving a while turn left to Mumbai Road. Drive till you reach Kolaghat, and turn left toward Digha. 2km before reaching Contai Town you will reach Contai Bypass Road, a shortcut that will again drop you on the Kolkata-Digha road. Drive another 10 km to reach Chawalkhola. Take a left turn from Chawalkhola and follow the village road till it ends at a sea-side village called Dadanpatrabar, around 8km. From Dadanpatrabar take a right turn along a narrow road that runs for another 2-3 Km. At the end of this road, you can either drive straight along the sand or take a right turn again through a narrow village road to reach Mandarmani. The village road is just a soil road with dense vegetation and some population on both sides. There are no lights or any other amenities. This runs for another 3-4 Km. It’s best to cover the whole stretch from Chawalkhola to Mandarmani before dark. The total trip from Kolkata is around 3.5 hours.
Distances are as follows: Esplanade – 63km – Kolaghat – 3km – Mecheda – 80km – Contai – 12.3km – Chawalkhola – 4km – Kalindi – 4km – Dadanpatrabar – 6km -Mandarmani – total 166km.
By bus
From Kolkata, catch a bus at Esplanade or at Howrah headed for Chawalkhola, or any bus headed towards Digha. From Chawlkhola there are cycle-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws which you can take to Dadanpatrabar. From Dadanpatrabar, you can again get some cycle-rickshaws, but it is best to take the transport from Chawalkhola till Mandarmani since transport availability from Dadanpatrabar is very uncertain. State Transport Buses are available cost Rs 76. A number of deluxe coaches run daily, Rs 100-110. Whiteliners is the nicest option, departing Esplanade at 7:30AM, Rs 160. Now (Aug 16th 2009) the whiteliners bus service will charge you 180 with an additional Rs. 5 as resevation charge.
A/C Volvo buses of Royal Cruiser (Joy Dada) are plying from Kolkata to Digha from which one can disembark at Chawalkhola. Leaves IBT at 6:45 AM and Esplanede at 7:45 AM. Ticket price till Digha is Rs 300.
See
* The beach – Most people are here to hang out at the beach. The waves tend to be calm, dotted with a few fisherman going about their daily routine.
* The Delta – At the end of the beach, there is a ‘mohana’ (place where a river meets the sea) [Delta]. There are some fishing settlements also nearby. This place is about 5-6 Km from the main part of the beach where most of the hotels/resorts are located. The place is really beautiful with a scenic backdrop. On one side of the river there are dense jhau trees, while on the other side is the fishing village. A bit far from the village on the other bank of the river is some dense vegetation. However, you will not be able to cross over to the other side and go for the forest as it is quite far, though it looks near.
You can see the fishermen standing or wading through knee deep water laying their nets or catching fish and crabs.
Red crabs are visible over a large stretch of the beach near the Mohana.
However, try to avoid this place after dark as it becomes very isolated and you will not find any people, local or outsiders.
You’ll most likely be walking between your resort and the beach, however if you need to travel longer distances, avoid the temptation to drive on the beach more than necessary.
Be careful while driving on the beach and try to stick to the central part of the beach while driving. Towards the end of the beach, the sands are soft in places and your car may get stuck in it. Avoid driving on the beach after dark as if you get stuck in the sand dunes, you may not be able to get any local help to pull your vehicle out.
On the beach, there is no electricity and after dark the only sources of light are the lights of the small beach-side shops which get their electricity from generators or batteries. As the evening progresses, the high tide causes the sea to rise. By 7-8 PM the sea takes up almost a quarter of the total width of the beach. So, if you had visited the beach during daytime, be careful as the sea will definitely be nearer in the evening. Better to have a torch with you at all times after dark.
Relax, swim and enjoy the beach. You are not likely to have many visitors around and that’s the beauty of this beach. Activities include fishing, table tennis, carrom, beach cricket, beach volleyball, and boat cruises. Sunbathing is best from October to February. However, this beach is not frequented by foreign tourists and so if you plan to sunbath here, be sure to keep in mind the local culture. Please remember to carry medicines (essential) as there is no nearby shop for fetching the same, in emergency.

From Kolkata we crossed Hoogly River by 2nd Hoogly Bridge and took Kona Expressway. From Kona Expressway, we followed NH 6 (Bombay Road) till Kolaghat. After crossing Kolaghat bridge we took left turn to enter the road towards Digha/Haldia. Landmark for the turn is that you will get a flyover on the highway you are in. You need to take left turn just before the flyover. A arrow mark indicating Engineering College will also help.
Once you leave Kolkata Mumbai National Highway you need go for at least 1 hour. Ask any one the road for Digha and they will tell. You will get a circle from where straight road goes to Haldia and a right turn goes to Digha. As gar as I remember, name of the place is Nandai Gajan. After taking Digha road you as for Chaulkhola. Form Chaulkhola a road goes to Mandarmoni. When I went to Mandarmani, constructions of this road were going on and hope you will enjoy good road till Mandarmani. At the last phase car need to be drove in the beach itself to enter the hotel. Still now, beach is the only road to enter hotels. There is a slope where road ends and beach starts. Lot of sands are accumulated this slope. Most of the vehicle struck in this region and our car also struck in the sand. Local people are there to push the car and they are charging money for that. Don’t pass any derogatory comment about them because they will increase the charge. We negotiated in Rs. 200. When coming I negotiated the deal like this, I will pay Rs. 100 whether the car struck in the sand or not. One of the local people sat beside me and instructed be. The trick is you have to run the car in second gear with almost full accelerator. This tricks works fine for and I smoothly drove the car from the beach to the road.

I like that the beach isn’t yet very popular, I hate crowded beaches because they can be such a tranquil place.
BEWARE GUYS WHO ARE THINKING FOR MANDARMONI.I went Mandarmoni on 7.1.2010 to 9.1.2010 and stayed in a resort called GARDEN RETREAT. Beware that’s the worst Rome service and hotel I have ever stayed. Rs880/-per day without many basic amenities. The beach is not very Virgin and crowded place full of touts right now.102 hotels are there but very poor infrastructure.Go there see Hotel then book never from Kolkata unless you book very renowned like Sana or Rosevalley.power is a major problem Hotels are run By generators so first ask how many hours they will give you power (in truest sense). But still better than Digha.
Be very cautious.

Mandermani is a very beautiful beach at Purba Midnapur district in West Bengal.Being amongst the fragrance of unpolluted air and chirping of birds.
31st Dec 2010 We visited Mandarmoni. It is a very nice place for a weekend trip. The Beach is very nice. But one thing I would like to suggest you please do not stay at “Candlewood Park Beach Resort & Spa”. It is the worst hotel I have seen in mondarmoni. This time out of 10 members 6 members were seriously ill (Vomiting & Stomach Problem) after taking their food. Kitchen & dining is not at all hygienic. We booked for package. which is having food included. Food cost 500/- rs per person per day. The food was so bad we wanted to cancel it from second day. We talked with hotel’s manager & owner but both of them said you have to pay for all the days. Other wise you pay for it and then you take food from outside. And that too very rudely. The hotel owners behavior was also very bad. He just wanted to make money. In 500 Rs they provided Breakfast, lunch, tiffin & dinner. In Breakfast they provided 6 puri’s and sabji, one egg & one sweet. If anyone want one extra puri he/she has to pay extra for that. For lunch they provided one piece on Fish and dinner 3 pieces of chicken. And one plate of rice. If anyone need one extra piece of chicken or fish have to pay extra charge for that. In one single sentence “Candlewood Park Beach Resort & Spa” is the worst hotel in mandarmoni. Management, food and hotel staffs are very very bad.
